Fleet management from a single interface – on desktop and mobile

The NRail telematics system provides live transmission, recording and access to operating data from rail vehicles—across manufacturers and vehicle series—enabling railway undertakings to take a major step toward digitizing their operations.

The data can be accessed from anywhere via the web in a clearly organized format in our telematics portal at iot.nrail.de. The telematics portal is also optimized for smartphones, making it easy to use on mobile devices. In addition, the operating data can be integrated into other systems thanks to an extensive API.

The hardware

Data box “Paula”

The associated hardware (the “Paula” data box) was developed specifically for this purpose. It is certified to DIN EN 50155:218 (including product safety, fire protection, CE, etc.), ready for immediate use on all rail vehicles, and can be installed onboard while the vehicle is on the track, without a visit to the workshop.

More than 400 vehicles are already equipped with “Paula” (as of January 2025).

Depending on customer requirements, the modular industrial design offers the option of connecting additional sensors via analog and digital inputs, in addition to the standard version.

Route knowledge recording, handover log and remote PZB readout

Remote PZB Readout

NRail’s new remote PZB readout module (PZB-FAM) is permanently installed on the traction vehicle and can be used at any time to perform a readout when needed.

All that is required is someone in the driver’s cab who can be contacted and can connect the NRail module to the PZB. The module replaces a direct connection to your PC, so you can now read out the PZB memory as usual using your Deuta software.

Route knowledge recording

While the vehicle is in motion, the Paula-Box sends its operating data to our telematics portal.

After the data has been matched against a comprehensive database (operating locations, line numbers), clear reports on the routes travelled are generated and made available for download in the portal to selected users with the appropriate permissions.

Digital handover log

The digital handover log provides direct access to all vehicle data relevant to day-to-day operations. Delayed reports of operating hours or damage are a thing of the past.

When defects or operating incidents are reported, a designated group of people can also be notified automatically, together with the relevant details.
